500 Mile WalkTrax
Privacy Policy
Effective October 5, 2026
The short version
- The app stores a zip code you type in, your walking miles and steps, and how your figure looks.
- Other walkers see an anonymous figure and its miles. They never see your name or email.
- The app never asks for your location and has no ads.
- We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
- You can have your account and everything stored with it deleted at any time.
Who we are
500 Mile WalkTrax ("the app") is published by MEETINGTAP, LLC ("we", "us"). This policy covers the app and this website. Questions go to chris.lauck@meetingtap.com.
What the app collects
Your account
When you sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an identifier for your account and, if you choose to share it, an email address. You can choose Apple's option to hide your email. Early test versions of the app may create an anonymous account with no sign-in at all.
Your zip code
You type in a five-digit zip code so we can place you on your local trail. The app does not use GPS or any other location service, and we do not know where you are within that zip code.
Your walking
With your permission, the app reads walking distance and step counts from Apple Health. We store the miles and steps for each day, and a one-time total of the miles you walked earlier this year, which sets your head start. The app does not read any other kind of health information and does not write anything to Apple Health.
Information from Apple Health is used only to run the app's features. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it or give it to data brokers.
Your figure and your cheers
We store how your figure looks (its tone, clothing and medal) and a record of the cheers you send, so that the daily limit works.
How the app is used
The app records a short list of actions, such as opening the trail, reaching a medal or viewing the store. These records are kept with your account on our own database. We use them to see which parts of the app work and which do not. We do not use any outside analytics or advertising service.
Purchases
If you buy something in the app, Apple handles the payment. We receive a record of what was bought so the app can unlock it. We never see your card number or billing details.
What other walkers can see
On the trail, other walkers see your figure, the outfit it is wearing and how many miles it has walked. Your miles are also added into the total for your area. Nobody else can see your name, your email address, your account identifier or your day-by-day history.
What the app does not collect
- Your name, unless you write to us
- Your precise location
- Your contacts, photos, microphone or camera
- Advertising identifiers
Who we share information with
We share information only with the companies that help us run the app:
- Supabase hosts the app's database and accounts on servers in the United States.
- Apple provides sign-in, Apple Health access on your device, and payments.
- RevenueCat will keep track of purchases once they are offered in the app. It receives an app account identifier and purchase records, not your name.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if the app is transferred to another company, in which case this policy continues to apply to information already collected.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. To delete your account and everything stored with it, email chris.lauck@meetingtap.com and ask. If your version of the app has a Delete account button in Settings, that does the same thing. Deletion is completed within 30 days and removes your miles from the trail. Records of how the app was used are kept, but with the link to your account removed.
You can also turn off the app's access to Apple Health at any time in the Health app or in your iPhone's Settings.
Security
Information is encrypted while it travels between the app and our database, and the database is set up so that each account can read only its own record. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the app, write to us and we will delete the account.
Where the app is offered
The app is offered in the United States, and information is stored in the United States. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you. Write to us and we will help, whichever state you live in.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Like any website, the company that hosts it (GitHub) receives the internet address of each visitor in order to deliver the pages.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will post the new version here and change the date at the top.
